Celebrating the Women Who Have Shaped Us

As we approach Mother’s Day, my heart is filled with gratitude. I think not only of my
wonderful mother, but also of the other women who have made significant differences in
my life — the ones who inspired, encouraged, and believed in me when I wasn’t sure I
could believe in myself.

In the Bible, we learn about two kinds of mothers and sisters. First, our physical mothers
and sisters who are the ones with whom we are blessed to share family ties. But we also
see a second kind – those with whom we have a spiritual kinship. These are the women
who are not blood relatives but have still walked with us, pointed us toward Jesus,
mentored us, and loved us unconditionally. Women who have really seen us and
chosen to love us anyway.

This morning I’m remembering and celebrating eight women who have made profound
impacts on my life. I would encourage you to do the same, reflecting on who are those
women in your own lives. And perhaps take advantage of some of the suggestions
below.
Time for Reflection:

  • Who never gave up on and believed in you when you were younger?
    Express your thanks to them.
  • Who encouraged and mentored you in your faith journey? Reach out and let
them know how much that meant.
  • Who helped shape the woman you are today? Tell them. Your words could be
the encouragement that individual needs right now.

Simple Ideas to Show Gratitude:

  1. Send a heartfelt note.
Use your own stationary or KGM has beautiful ‘Gratitude’ cards, featuring
    Philippians 1:3 inside:
“I thank my God every time I remember you.”

2. Make a donation in their honor.
Donate to an organization of significance to the individual. If unsure, you can
make a donation to KGM, and we’ll send that person a special note letting her
know the difference her life made in yours.

3. Give a thoughtful gift.
Send flowers, drop off a potted plant, or choose a simple but meaningful gift.

4. Share a meal together.
Extend an invitation to lunch — or better yet, bring them to the KGM Luncheon
on May 8th! Enjoy a delicious meal, fellowship, and an inspirational message (all
for $15 each). It’s an incredible way to spend Mother’s Day week and honor
those women in your life

All Women Need Encouragement
It is important to tell others the difference they have made in our lives and of your
commitment to plant seeds of faith, hope, and love in the lives of others, just as they did
for you. We all need that kind of encouragement!

As we move closer to Mother’s Day, let’s acknowledge and celebrate the incredible
women God has placed in our lives. They are truly His gift to us.
