Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. John 1:1-2 (Emphasis mine) 

“I am the light of the world.” John 9:5

The world might seem dark and uncertain, but we are not without hope. As believers, we always have access to the light of the world – Jesus. He is described as the Word. Therefore, anytime we spend time in our Bible, we’re spending time with Jesus. 

Picture yourself on a dark path, and all you have is a lamp. But when you turn on the lamp – in this case God’s Word – He promises enough light to direct your next step.

One step at a time is scary because we tend to want to see the entire path before proceeding.

Yet, illuminating the entire path ahead is not typically how God operates. Take for instance when the Israelites were in the desert. God supernaturally fed them manna, but He only gave enough for the day. Or remember how God taught us to pray?  Give us this day our daily bread.

Why?

Because God wants us to spend time with Him. Time with God builds trust, and He wants us to trust Him enough to walk with Him step by step, day by day. As we do, He gives us enough light for the day. And our desire to know the whole path doesn’t seem quite as important. 

In order to live with this trusting, supernatural peace and hope, we can’t miss our daily quiet time with Jesus. As we draw close to Him, He promises to draw near to us. Engagement with God’s Word always brings light into any situation. It illuminates our next step.  

So, focus on today’s step and trust Him for tomorrows.
