20 Unique Gift Ideas for the Graduate

My sweet girl graduates from high school this week.

Last week, I attended the graduation of one of her best friends. At the sound of the graduation march, I choked up. Even as I write this, a knot is forming, and I’m fighting back the tears. Needless to say, it is an emotional and joyous time for our family.

Like myself, many have or will have graduates in their lives and may be looking for more personal or unique gift ideas. A few years ago, I asked the KGM community for ideas apart from the more traditional card and money (which is a great gift!). Here is some of the feedback we received:

  1. A devotional book with cash or a gift card.
  2. A duffle bag or large carry bag for going home on the weekend with their college emblem.
  3. A keychain engraved with a specific verse as a reminder of how much they are loved.
  4. An umbrella.
  5. A tile – an electronic device to help locate misplaced keys.
  6. Personalized stationery.
  7. Gift cards to Amazon.
  8. Gift cards to Bed Bath & Beyond for setting up a dorm room.
  9. Cute shower bags (Scout) and shower shoes.
  10. Art they can hang in their dorm.
  11. Scripture art.
  12. A Yeti or Tervis Cup of their college with money inside.
  13. A backpack.
  14. The Book: The Next Right Thing by Emily P. Freeman or Oh the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss.
  15. Monogrammed towels.
  16. Gas cards.
  17. For girls, an engravable necklace or bracelet with the GPS coordinates for home engraved or a favorite family saying. For boys, luggage with their name and toiletries bag. You could have the bag similarly engraved.
  18. A nice piece of jewelry or charm bracelet.
  19. Big laundry basket loaded with dorm essentials.
  20. Something of sentimental value instead of something expensive. Graduates might appreciate it more than you might think and remember it for a lifetime.

A dear friend, now in heaven, had the practice of sharing a scripture with the graduate in his or her card. She would challenge that individual to continue walking with the Lord and to not forsake the things he or she was taught. This idea is one that I’ll adopt for each of my graduates and their gifts!

Congratulations to all of the graduates in your life. May this list help you as much it has me in celebrating their accomplishments!
