Let’s Pray for America on the Fourth of July

Psalm 33:12,
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.

As we celebrate the 4th of July, I think about the many things I love about America.

I love, and I pray this will not change, that we live in a country that values life, liberty, freedom, and the right to assemble and worship God. I’m grateful for our three branches of government. I’m grateful for our leaders. I’m grateful for the military and the police. I’m grateful that we are a nation built upon law and order.

But perhaps what I am most grateful for is that we were founded as ‘one nation under God.’

Before you jump into your fun activities this holiday, albeit a little different than prior years thanks to Covid-19, take a few moments to thank God for our many blessings and to pray for our great country.

Praise Him as the One true, living God who loves and hears us as we pray. Praise Him as the One who forgives if we ask and repent. Praise Him as the only One able to maintain our freedoms and bring our nation healing.

  • Thank Him for the privilege of living in a country founded as ‘one nation under God.’
  • Thank Him for the many ways He has blessed our country as evidenced by the number of people from other cultures seeking to come to America.
  • Thank Him for the freedoms we enjoy, including assembling in the Name of Jesus and worshiping Him openly.
  • Pray that God, prayer, and His Word would be revered and honored by our nation’s leaders.
  • Pray for upcoming elections – that only men and women who value freedom and liberty would be elected.
  • Pray God’s people can discern differences between political candidates and vote for those who value what God values.
  • Pray for the awakening of God’s people and a uniting around Him, the gospel, and His Word as opposed to a social or cultural movement.
  • Pray God’s people would not be deceived by voting for candidates who would remove our freedoms and the establishment of ‘one nation under God.’
  • Pray God’s people would be bold and filled with courage rather than shrinking back.
  • Pray that we would repent of any known sin and turn to God.
  • Pray our nation would turn back to the One true, living God Who founded this great land.
  • Pray that He would return to us, forgive our sin, and heal our land.

For the Glory of the Great Name of Jesus.  Amen.
