When Your Candidate Does not Win…

Isaiah 28:21,
“The Lord will rise up… to do His work, His strange work, and perform His task, His alien task.”

I refused to watch election night coverage.  I just can’t handle all the opinions.   So I decided to wait until the morning after to hear results.

Sadly, not all my candidates won.  Some won.  But not all – nor did some the candidates I was cheering from afar.

They were excellent candidates that should have won.  Candidates that were God-fearing men and women.   So refreshing!  There’s a part of me that wonders why God allows men and women who unashamedly live their faith in the public domain to lose in elections?

While making coffee with an unsettled feeling in my stomach, the thought occurred to me:

Thank God that real hope is not based on the results of an election.   In addition, I am so thankful that God does not serve in an elected office.

The God we know and serve, (the God of the Bible) cannot be manipulated or controlled.

  • He does not answer to special interests.
  • He is not moved by public opinion.
  • He does not pander to anyone.

He is God Almighty.  He is on His throne.  He has control of every circumstance.  He is unmovable.  He is steadfast.  He is abundantly good.  He is all-wise.  And He is loving in all His ways.

The Word says, “We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one.”  1 John 5:19 NLT

Although Satan has control in the world, He is not God’s equal or rival.  He must answer to the One True God of the Universe.  The same God Who has given us salvation through Jesus.  And has given us a future and a hope; a purpose and a calling.

When God allows things we simply do not understand, that’s when we have to focus on who He is.   That His ways are higher than our ways.  His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.  His plans are perfect – as are His purposes.

As the old hymn says, “It is well with my soul.”

Hope it is with you as well:)

You can KNOW God too!
