6 Steps to Remove Anxiety from our Hearts

“Cast all your anxiety on Him
because He cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:7

By Ellen Stevens

When our hearts are full of uneasiness or nervousness, the Bible tells us to pray: “Cast all your anxiety on Him…” (emphasis mine)

In other words, throw our fears, anxieties, and heavy burdens onto Jesus. He is committed to giving His serious attention to our prayer requests. Jesus is able to work out the details of our lives because He cares so deeply for us. He is trustworthy!

I have discovered that when anxiety starts rising within my inmost being, these steps help remove my fear and restore a sense of peace.

  1. Humble yourself before God. Humbling yourself says, “Lord, I trust YOU and YOUR PROVISION for every request.”
  2. Cast your cares on Him. Throw off fear, anxiety, and every burden. When fear tries to creep back in, you may have to remind yourself multiple times to place your burdens between His strong shoulders. Don’t pick them back up.
  3. Surrender! Allow Him access to control the situation. He will use the outcome for your good and His glory!
  4. Obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
  5. Choose to trust. Tell your heart to be at peace knowing He is personally concerned about the things that concern you.
  6. Speak His Word out loud! Proclaiming words of faith will bring us peace.

We serve a MIGHTY GOD! He is our Deliverer, Burden Bearer, and Promise Keeper! If we will follow these simple steps, Jesus will remove the anxiety from our hearts.

Meditate on these powerful truths from God’s Word. If one particularly resonates, write it in your journal or on an index card, and memorize it. When you start to feel fearful or anxious, take your thoughts captive with God’s powerful words.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you…
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

“Cast your cares on the LORD and He will sustain you;
He will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Psalm 55:22
