Theme Verse:

Proverbs 4:23, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”

Our 2nd Annual Mother/Daughter Retreat was memorable, fun, sweet and special.  Take a look at a few of the highlights!

Merrie Johnson, our keynote speaker from the NC Baptist Convention was outstanding.  Three of the most memorable points she made to the girls:

  1. God has a good plan for your life.  Image may contain: 1 person, indoorEvery choice you make is either bringing you closer to God and His good plan for your life or away from His good plan.  Make good choices…
  2. Are your friends kind?  Encouraging?  Do they tell you to do stuff you shouldn’t do?  Choose friends that believe the same thing you believe.
  3. If you ever start to feel depressed:  do not stay alone in your room all the time.   Talk to your mom.  Also, spend time in God’s Word.  He has a good plan for your life.

She challenged Moms to:

  1. Be careful of the words you speak to your daughter.  If they make a bad decision, always point to the choice not the kid.
  2. Be intentional about telling your daughter the things you admire about her.  BUILD HER UP!
  3. Around the dinner table each night, talk about the happys and crappys of the day.  (That’s what her and her boys called it.)  Great way to facilitate open dialogue.

Rachel Stevens, who has modeled in Greensboro Fashion Week and Appalacian Fashion Week,  gave us all a fashion show of what’s hot and what’s not.   And how to build great outfits on a small budget.

But her biggest share – was her testimony of the reality of Jesus in everyday life.  She spends time with Him daily.  She shared how Jesus is her Friend.  The girls clung to her every word.

She also encouraged the girls to dress modestly.

During some of the fun and games, we had a Character Fashion Show with judges and all.   The girls loved it!

Lastly, my daughter aged out this year.  However, at my compulsion, she volunteered this year.

Though she dreaded it a first, she ended up having a blast.  So grateful the Lord allowed us this time together.  We really enjoyed our time, the overnight at the hotel and serving with each other.  Love, love, love this girl!

Special thanks to Leah Carson.  Without her, these photos would not exist.  Taking pictures is often the last thing on my brain.  Grateful for her.  If you ever need a family or wedding photographer, think of her!  She is such a blessing to KGM.
