Runway Lights: Learning to Hear God’s Voice Part 2 of 2

Last week we talked about the first “runway light” God uses to guide us: His Word.
Today we’ll look at two more ways God directs His children — through peace and
through circumstances.

Runway Light #2: Peace
When God is leading us, He often confirms His direction with peace deep within our
hearts.

Colossians 3:15 says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” One translation
describes peace as an “umpire” — something that helps us discern whether we are
moving in the right direction or not.

Of course, peace alone should never guide us apart from Scripture. God will never lead
us in a way that contradicts His Word or His character. His direction will always align
with truth and holiness.

When facing a decision, it’s important to slow down and pray instead of reacting quickly.
So many mistakes are made in haste. Wisdom waits.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is pause long enough to ask:

  • Do I truly have peace?
  • Am I rushing ahead?
  • Have I invited God into this decision?

As we wait on Him, God faithfully directs our steps.

And even when we fear making the wrong decision, we can rest in this truth: God is
able to redirect us. He honors a heart that sincerely wants to obey Him.

Runway Light #3: Circumstances
The third runway light is circumstances lining up with what God has already been
speaking.

Often, when God is trying to get our attention about something, we begin hearing the
same message repeatedly — in Scripture, sermons, conversations, devotionals, or quiet
moments with Him. His direction becomes increasingly clear.

God is personal. He knows how to confirm His voice in ways we understand.

But there is also a warning here. If we continually ignore God’s leading and choose
disobedience instead, our hearts can become hardened to His voice. Scripture warns
about a “famine” of hearing from the Lord.

That’s why obedience matters so deeply.

God still speaks. He desires to guide His children. He is not distant, silent, or
unconcerned with the details of your life.

Through His Word, His peace, and His faithful confirmation, He lovingly directs our
paths.

The question is not whether God is speaking.
The question is whether we are willing to slow down, listen, and obey.
