Can I Trust God?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”  Proverbs 3:5-6

For the last 20 years, my life verse from God’s Word has been Proverbs 3:5-6.

My desire is to trust the Lord with all my heart and live out that faith each day.  Through a divorce, single parenting, doing ministry, running a business, paying bills, busyness, health issues, and living in a world that seems crazy at times, I have learned to seek God in everything.   But honestly, some days it is hard to believe that God is everything I need. Some days I just want life to be easier.

But I have found that God is faithful.  Seek His will, and He will show you the path to take.  It’s not always the easiest path or the one you want. I can attest that God brings peace and joy during the hard times and the easy ones.  God is always present.

I have been studying the life of Joseph in the Bible in Genesis chapters 37-50.  I urge you read these chapters for yourself, but here is the short version of his life.

Joseph was one of 12 sons born to Jacob, the grandson of Abraham.  These 12 sons became the 12 tribes of Israel. Joseph was Jacob’s favorite, and his older brothers were very jealous.

God gave Joseph two dreams as a young boy that showed his brothers and father bowing down before him.  Joseph shared these dreams with his older brothers who in turn hated Joseph for them.

The brothers soon found a chance to get rid of Joseph, selling him to a group of traders headed to Egypt where Joseph was eventually sold into slavery.  The brothers lied and told their father that Joseph had been killed by a wild animal. Life was not turning out the way Joseph thought it would.

Through almost 13 years of slavery, Joseph believed and trusted God.  God directed Joseph’s steps and the Lord was with Joseph. Joseph followed God even in the hardest times of his life.

One day Joseph interpreted a dream for Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, who in response raised Joseph up to be the 2nd in command and to save the known world from the upcoming famine.  During the famine, Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt and bowed before him not knowing who he was.  In doing so, God fulfilled the dreams given to Joseph many years before. In his graciousness, Joseph brought all of Jacob’s family to Egypt to live during this time, so he could take care of them.

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good.  He brought me to this position, so I could save the lives of many people.” Genesis 50:20

Are you struggling with trusting God?  It’s easy when life is going well. But then let something that we see as bad happen, can you still trust God?  God has plans for each of us. We can put our trust in Him. He is faithful and trustworthy and good.

As you put your trust in God, you will become One Woman who will make a difference in the lives of the people around you.

“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord.  They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”  Jeremiah 29:11
