I recently received a text from a friend that made me laugh out loud.
She had printed one of our “My True Identity” cards and wrote:
“I put this in the kids’ bathroom so they would see it often. An unexpected use I’m sure,
but I’m excited for them to continue learning these truths. The Psalm 23 card is on the
opposite wall, and I’ve tasked them with memorizing it by the end of the summer.”
I immediately texted back:
“That is absolutely brilliant!”
Because honestly…it is.
Children spend several minutes in that room every day. Instead of letting their minds wander aimlessly, they’re reading truth after truth:
I am God’s child.
I am chosen.
I am dearly loved.
I am secure.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
What a simple way to help God’s Word sink deep into their hearts.
But after I laughed about her creative decorating choice, another thought hit me.
Adults need this just as much as children.
How many times a day do we rehearse messages that aren’t true?
“I’m not enough.”
“I’m failing.”
“I don’t measure up.”
“I’ll never change.”
If we’re honest, we often preach to ourselves far more than anyone else does. The question is, what sermon are we preaching?
God has already told us who we are. We don’t have to create our identity or earn it. We simply have to remember it.
That’s why I love practical tools like Scripture cards. They’re simple, but they’re powerful because they put truth in front of our eyes over and over again. Eventually what we’re reading begins to shape what we’re believing.
When I told my friend how much I loved her idea, she replied:
“Thank you for providing tools to grow stronger in the Lord. I have my own card in my
Bible study space. So helpful!”
I smiled because I was thinking: I need one where I’ll see it every day too.
- Maybe that’s on your bathroom mirror.
- Maybe beside your coffee maker.
- Maybe on your desk.
- Maybe tucked inside your Bible.
The location isn’t what matters. Seeing God’s truth consistently is.
Because the voices around us—and sometimes the voice inside us—will constantly tell
us who we’re not.
God’s Word faithfully reminds us of who we are.
Are you ready to dive into scripture?
